YORKSHIRE women’s second team overwhelmed Lancashire at Pleasington GC, surrendering just two points – one each in the foursomes and singles.
All eight players contributed to the eventual 10-2 winning scoreline, Yorkshire taking the foursomes 3-1 and the singles 7-1.
Hickleton’s Alison Knowles and Georgia Holden (Huddersfield) led the way in the morning, beating Alex Forrest and Lauren Green 3&2 in the top match.
Lily Downs (Romanby) and Garforth’s Laura Morrison succumbed 4&2 to Kim Bates and Mina Mcquhae, but Lindrick’s Beth Acey and Ganstead Park’s Abigail Smee won by the same scoreline, against Grace Cannon and Nicola George, to restore the visitors’ advantage.
Milly Eaton, of Skipton, paired with Toni Louise Naylor (Waterton Park) to win the final foursomes 2&1 over Vicky Bithell and Rosie Devereux to complete the 3-1 morning scoreline.
Knowles doubled up at the head of proceedings by winning her singles decisively, 6&4, against Forrest.
Downs took just one more hole to sink Green 5&3, while Naylor saw off Bates 3&2.
Smee suffered a 4&3 loss at the hands of Mcquhae, thus enabling Lancashire to avoid a singles whitewash.
But it did not prove to be a turning of the tide as Eaton (4&3 versus Cannon), Morrison (two up versus George), Holden (one up versus Bithell) and Acey (one up versus Devereux) all won for the White Rose.
The Yorkshire team were supported by both the YLCGA president Heather Cawdry and county captain Jean Waring
Dawn Clegg, Yorkshire vice-captain, said: “The standard of golf was excellent with some spectacular shots displayed despite the wind gaining in strength in the afternoon.”
Yorkshire will play their Cheshire counterparts this Sunday, July 26, at York GC.
