YORKSHIRE Veteran Ladies’ team remain in the hunt for the Richardson Trophy after defeating Durham 4.5-2.5 at Rotherham GC.

A win in their final match against Cumbria at Penrith GC next month could help decide the competition’s outcome in their favour.

The match with Durham was tight, three of the seven matches going all the way to the 18th hole.

YVLGA champion Julie Wheeldon led the way with a 5&3 defeat of her Durham counterpart Ruth Lindley.

Karen Jobling fought hard for a half against Karen Lee to maintain Yorkshire’s advantage, which was widened when Pat Wrightson beat Durham’s Rosie Preston.

Sandra Paul got the better of Marianne Moore 5&3, but Carol Simpson and Judy Butler suffered defeats to Lyn Davison (two down) and Julia Doughty (3&1) respectively.

Jackie Barraclough brought home the point for Yorkshire in the final match, defeating Lesley Still two up.
