YORKSHIRE women’s second team followed up an impressive showing against Lancashire with an even more emphatic win over Cheshire.

Lancashire were swept aside 10-2 at Pleasington GC while Cheshire were only able to take a half from one of the morning foursomes in the match at York GC.

Alison Knowles (Hickleton) and Ganstead Park’s Jessica Smee led the onslaught with a 7&6 win in the top foursomes.

Lindrick’s Beth Acey and Abigail Smee (Ganstead Park) won 4&3 and Waterton Park’s Toni Louise Naylor teamed with Flamborough’s Georgina Hirst to triumph 2&1.

Held to a half were Lily Downs (Romanby) and Thirsk & Northallerton’s Lauren Collinson.

All eight women triumphed in their singles matches, Knowles (6&5), Abigail Smee (5&3) and Downs (5&4) by the biggest margins.

Jessica Smee and Collinson were both taken to the final green, but both came through to complete the 8-0 singles whitewash.
