William Haggas is aiming to fulfil a career ambition by becoming top trainer at York for the first time.

The Skipton-born handler has recorded 12 winners on the Knavesmire in 2017 – three more than his nearest rival Tim Easterby.

Both trainers will be represented at the concluding two-day fixture that begins tomorrow. Haggas, 57, said: “We nearly did it a couple of years ago and got done on the last day when David O’Meara had four winners in the last two meetings.”
