BOTH Yorkshire teams endured a Saturday night to forget before meeting each other for a fifth time at Ice Sheffield on Sunday night.

And after an 8-2 defeat at the hands of English Premier League leaders Telford Tigers, it was Sheffield Steeldogs who had something to smile about 24 hours later, finally getting the better of Hull Pirates with a 4-1 triumph.

It made for a miserable weekend for the short-benched Hull Pirates, who arrived in South Yorkshire having been hammered 13-1 in what was a nightmare league debut for new Czech goaltender Vlastimil Lakosil.

Goals from Cole Shudra (2), Arnoldas Bosas and Tomas Brcko allowed Greg Wood’s players to enjoy their first taste of victory over their Yorkshire rivals having lost the previous four meetings between the two.

It also sees them strengthen their grip on a eighth and final play-off spot, increasing their advantage over ninth-placed Bracknell Bees to eight points.
