Great Britain v Romania - We won't get ahead of ourselves, insists Jonathan Weaver.

WHILE their Saturday showdown with leaders Ukraine looks increasingly likely to produce the gold medal winner at the World Championships in Zagreb, Great Britain are guarding against complacency 24 hours earlier.

First up for Pete Russell’s team is today’s encounter with Romania – promoted last season and bottom of the Division 1B table without a win in the tournament.

A spectacular 8-0 win over Lithuania on Wednesday left GB second in the group and a point behind Ukraine and, while on paper today’s fixture looks a simple task, defenceman Jonathan Weaver insists Great Britain must not get ahead of themselves.

“It’s an old cliché but you really do have to take each game as it comes,” said Weaver.

“You have to give Romania the respect they deserve.

“We need to go out there tomorrow businesslike and hopefully put on a performance.

“We need to get a win and only start thinking about Ukraine after that.”

Rotherham-born goaltender Ben Bowns, meanwhile, said he was delighted to record his first international shut-out in the comprehensive win over Lithuania.

“A shutout is always nice to get but, to be honest, the team were unreal in front of me,” said the Cardiff Devils netminder. “You can’t really complain when you have 10 shots in a game.”
