CHRIS LAWRENCE continued to press his claims for a longer deal with Sheffield Steelers - twice scoring the game-winning goal at the weekend.

First, the Canadian forward was on hand to silence the home fans at former club Nottingham Panthers when his 48th-minute strike proved to be the difference in Steelers’ 3-2 Challenge Cup triumph at the National Ice Centre on Saturday night.

The result moved the Steelers three points clear at the top of the Group B standings, although Cardiff Devils - with a game in hand - can still mathematically catch them.

Lawrence was again the hero against Braehead Clan back on home ice on Sunday night, scoring twice - including the overtime winner with just 29 seconds remaining on the powerplay.

It ensured a 4-3 win for the Steelers over the team they pipped to the regular season championship last time out and saw Lawrence’s personal goal tally rise to five in just three games since joining the Steelers to provide injury cover last Tuesday.
