FEATHERSTONE Rovers coach Daryl Powell admits he has never seen an absenteesism list as long as the one which has blighted tomorrow’s encounter against Batley Bulldogs.
Last season’s Minor Premiers have been bolstered with the return of prop Tony Tonks after his suspension was reduced by the RFL Disciplinary Committee at Wednesday’s appeal and Andrew Bostock may resume after a stomach virus.
But Rovers have plenty of other problems with Tim Spears (knee), Dave Williams (ankle), Sam Smeaton (ankle) and Kris Welham (knee) all suffering injuries during last week’s opening night defeat at Leigh and Zak Hardaker being recalled by Leeds Rhinos.
“We’re doing it pretty tough,” admitted Powell.
“It’s an unprecedented injury list for us, so we’ll have to dig deep.”
After completing a one-match suspension, Kris Lythe is available for Batley who opened with an impressive 28-0 win over Dewsbury, who entertain Toulouse this evening.
The French club started with an impressive 26-12 victory over champions Halifax.
Hunslet head to Widnes tomorrow while in Championship One, Keighley player-coach Jason Demetriou faces a late fitness test on a quad problem before naming himself in the side that journeys to luckless Gateshead.
Doncaster are helped by the return of prop Jamie Bovill from suspension for their trip to London Skolars.
