DONCASTER Rovers manager Sean O’Driscoll is looking for a new striker after admitting defeat in the battle to extend Billy Sharp’s season.
Sharp, the club’s £1.1m record signing, had been playing with a hernia problem but has now torn muscles in his groin and requires surgery.
Striker Jason Euell is back with the club after recovering from a knee injury but his loan deal from Blackpool is due to expire next weekend. Rovers already have six loan players and Football League rules will only allow five loan players to be used in any one game.
Ahead of today’s trip, O’Driscoll said: “We always knew that it was a bit of a gamble (with Sharp) and we’ve obviously not come out on top. It’s unfortunate but it has been a season of unfortunates. If this means that his season is over, it would be a big blow. We would like to bring in another player but would feel uncomfortable having seven so we will have to wait and see. Loan players come to you to play games or be involved but this situation has crept up on us.”
