'Bad boy' Carney joining Giants

HUDDERSFIELD Giants have beaten off stiff competition from Wigan to secure the services of disgraced Australian half-back Todd Carney.

The 22-year-old has agreed a three-year contract with the Super League club and is expected to arrive in December to work under new coach Nathan Brown.

Although regarded as one of the most exciting talents Down Under, Carney has been no stranger to controversy for his off-field behaviour which led to him being sacked by Canberra Raiders earlier this year.

In 2007, he was ordered to do 200 hours community service following a high-speed car chase in which he admitted to driving negligently and while disqualified. Earlier this year, Carney was suspended by Canberra after an allegation that he had urinated on a man in a nightclub, a claim that was later withdrawn.

The Raiders asked Carney to agree to a five-point plan which included an alcohol ban until 2012, undergoing counselling and being stood down from training and playing until the end of the season. When he refused, the club sacked him.

Castleford have signed Huddersfield back row Stuart Jones for 2009. Jones, 26, has agreed a one-year deal with the Tigers, who are also expected to re-sign his team-mate Ryan Hudson.

Castleford's Australian stand-off Luke Dorn will return to London next year after signing a two-year deal with Harlequins.

Featherstone scrum-half Paul Handforth is banned for eight matches after being found guilty of striking a touch judge and using foul and abusive language in the defeat at home to Halifax.

Twins Paul and David March have each been banned for three matches following ugly scenes at York's victory over Rochdale.

Player-coach Paul March was found guilty of using foul and abusive language and aggressive body language to referee Dave Merrick. He was banned from the touchline for three matches.

David was found guilty of head-butting an opponent and then disputing the referee's decision to send him off in an aggressive manner.

Hunslet's Darren Robinson was suspended for three games for using foul and abusive language to a referee at Keighley.
