Carnegie Challenge Cup draw made

WELSH champions Blackwood Bulldogs will make their Carnegie Challenge Cup debut against student team Edge Hill University.

The Bulldogs, who qualified for rugby league's famous knockout tournament thanks to a 38-22 win over Bridgend Blue Bulls in the Welsh Grand Final last August, were among 65 clubs to go into the hat for the opening rounds.

Their first-round home tie against the Merseyside students will be played on the weekend of January 23 and 24.

Championship clubs enter the tournament at the third-round stage, with Super League teams joining in the fourth round.

Preliminary round (ties to be played on January 2 and 3): Leigh Miners Rangers v Millom, York Acorn v Skirlaugh, Orchard Park & Greenwood v Wath Brow Hornets, Waterhead v Sharlston Rovers, Egremont Rangers v Oulton Raiders, Widnes St Maries v Myton Warriors, Yorkshire Cup winners v Leigh East, Oldham St Annes v Wigan St Judes, West Bowling v Normanton Knights, Wigan St Patricks v Broughton Red Rose, Nottingham Outlaws v Hull University, Warrington Wizards v Birmingham University, Leeds Met University v St Mary's University.
