Goole take advantage of rivals' absence to extend lead at top of table

Northern Counties East WITH many of their close rivals in FA Vase action, Goole extended their Premier Division lead but lowly Hallam made them work for the points. A goal in each half by Steve Price and Darren Fell put Goole in a strong position but Paul Clements pulled a goal back, ensuring a nerve-jangling final five minutes.

Glasshoughton Welfare and Garforth Town failed to contrive a goal between them in the first half but Lee Parker broke the deadlock for Welfare and Danny Sheffiffe added a second with five minutes remaining. Gavin Birmingham netted an 89th-minute consolation goal.

Two goals in the opening 25 minutes by Andy Patterson proved sufficient to defeat visitors Selby Town. Patterson was successful from the penalty spot after Martin Packer had been fouled. Then Patterson side-footed Ian Briggs's cross into the net with Selby appealing in vain for offside.

Eccleshill United were 2-0 winners of their derby at Liversedge, Ben Jones scoring in the first half and Justin Malone making sure with United's second goal, in the 78th minute.

Brodsworth Miners Welfare lost promising defensive midfield man Lee Pugh with a serious ankle injury 10 minutes from the end of their 1-1 draw against Glapwell.

Armthorpe Welfare were well beaten at Buxton where Mark Reed and Carl Holmes netted in the first half and Tim Willis made it three just two minutes from the end.

Division One leaders Hatfield Main crashed to a 3-1 home defeat against Lincoln Moorlands in spite of taking a first-half lead through Shane Fox.

Lincoln stepped up the pressure after the interval and were rewarded with goals by Mark Ryan, Nick Robinson and Adam Gilbert.

Craig Wilkinson was denied a hat-trick for Worsbrough Bridge by Rossington Main's 17-year-old goalkeeper Mick Jones but by then Bridge were leading 3-0, Mark Alvey netting between Wilkinson's two successful strikes. Steve Pinder collected a consolation goal for Rossington with 20 minutes left.

Tom Fleming put Storthes Hall ahead from the penalty spot before two goals in five second half minutes from Richard Lewis completed a 3-0 win.

Keighley Phoenix stay bottom with no points after crashing to an 8-2 defeat at home to Otley Town. Joe Lunn bagged a hat-trick.

RECKITTS slipped to their first defeat of the season as they crashed out of the Cup.

Hider Foods cinched a deserved 3-2 second round victory thanks to a fine display from former Sculcoates Amateurs striker Paul Chatterton, who bagged two goals with Stuart Ainsley also finding the net.

Mark Tennison had given Reckitts the lead after 32 minutes and Ryan Cairns netted a penalty in stoppage time but it was not enough to prevent a shock exit.

Craig Foster bagged two first half goals to help Easington United thrash ten-man Hedon United 4-0 with Gavin Thirkettle and Daniel Medforth also getting on the scoresheet.
