LAST season's grand final runners-up Hull are still searching for their first win of the new engage Super League season after throwing away a 12-0 lead at Warrington.
The visitors even looked like snatching a draw with Matt Sing's late try and Paul Cooke's conversion making it 24-24.
But man of the match Lee Briers dropped a goal three minutes from time to secure victory for the home side.
Hull welcomed back key stand-off Cooke, who had damaged knee ligaments in a pre-season friendly. Captain Lee Radford, Motu Tony, Willie Manu and Paul King also returned for Aussie boss Peter Sharp's side. But Warrington were also strengthened, with Martin Gleeson and Vinnie Anderson – man of the match in their opening win at Wigan – back after missing the home defeat by Bradford.
Hull took advantage of Paul Rauhihi's sin-binning to sweep into a 12-0 lead, with tries from Richard Whiting and Radford.
Rauhihi was yellow-carded by referee Steve Ganson for dissent, with slick passing sending Whiting over from the tap penalty before converting. Then, after his kick was spilled by Stuart Reardon, Radford touched down.
But, with Rauhihi still off the field, Warrington opened their account when Michael Sullivan dummied his way over after Paul Johnson had been held short.
Lee Briers tagged on the goal and, after 28 minutes, took Jon Clarke's pass to stroll through a gap, reducing the deficit to 12-10.
Warrington had a let-off when Reardon fumbled Richard Horne's kick but they drew level with a Briers penalty shortly before the break.
There was no denying Clarke after 47 minutes when his surge was continued by Martin Gleeson to allow Briers to make it 18-12 with the conversion.
Gareth Raynor went close for Hull but Warrington continued their impressive comeback with Clarke and Martin Gleeson combining for Anderson to cross in the corner for his second try in two matches.
Warrington had scored 22 unanswered points before Raynor reduced the arrears to 22-18 after 63 minutes, with Cooke booting the touchline conversion.
Cooke's obstruction then allowed Briers to land his fourth goal from six attempts before he missed a drop goal which would have opened up a seven-point cushion.
Rauhihi's high tackle on Tony gave Hull the impetus to draw level, Whiting cleverly working an opening for Sing to surge over with Cooke adding the goal.
Paul King's knock-on ultimately proved costly for Hull, as Warrington worked their way forward for Briers to drop in with his winner.
