Pursuit of new centre ends for eager Tigers
Castleford Tigers have finally succeeded in their pursuit of a new centre after capturing Australian James Grehan from French club Limoux on a one-year deal.
Coach Ian Millward has been desperate to strengthen there ahead of the Super League start at Salford a week on Saturday.
Grehan, 23, was recommended by ex-Castleford forward Dale Fritz, his strength and conditioning coach at NRL outfit Western Suburbs, where the versatile player had impressed in reserve grade last year.
Millward said: “Jimmy runs very good lines in attack and has good mobility in defence.
“He is more of a second-row who can play centre but we believe we might have unearthed someone on an incentive-based contract who we might want to tie down if things work out as a second row in the longer term.
“In the short-term, he will be useful in that he can do a good job for us in the centres.”
Hull KR are set to be without captain Ben Galea for the opening fortnight of the season after he damaged medial knee ligaments in the friendly victory over Hull FC when youngster Rich Beaumont also broke his fibula.
