Teenage son of Castleford tigers coach Ian Millward dies

DEVASTATED Castleford Tigers head coach Ian Millward is on compassionate leave following the sudden death of his 19-year-old son Robbie.

The Australian returned home from the club’s game in France yesterday to be told the teenager had been taken ill at the family home in Leigh and rushed to Bolton Hospital where he died later that evening.

A Tigers club statement read: “The club is shocked and deeply saddened by the death yesterday of Robbie Millward, son of Tigers head coach Ian Millward.

“All our thoughts are with Ian and his family at this sad time.”

Former Leigh, St Helens and Wigan coach Millward took over from Terry Matterson at Castleford last October.
