Hunslet Hawks kept up the pressure on the Championship One’s top two with a comprehensive victory at Gateshead Thunder.
The Hawks thrashed Gateshead 52-6 back in May and the north-east side never looked like exacting any revenge as tries from Danny Maun, Liam Hood and Luke Stenchion gave Hunslet a 18-0 half-time advantage.
Andy Ballard crossed early in the second half and converted all eight of his team’s tries to give him a personal total of 20 points. Ballard added the second-half extras to tries from Jimmy Watson, Liam Mackay and Michael Haley while James Coyle put the icing on the cake with a last-gasp drop goal.
Gateshead ensured they would at least make a contribution to the scoreboard, though, as Jordan Meads went over, and kicked the conversion, just after the hour.
