Rookie full-back Freddie Walker touched down twice on his competitive debut for the club as Halifax swept Oxford aside 54-12 in the third round of the Challenge Cup.
Walker, a local junior who left Huddersfield in the autumn, replaced regular number one Ryan Fieldhouse and was hailed as “sensational” by coach Karl Harrison.
Halifax led 32-0 at the break against the Championship One new boys, with Walker contributing one of his side’s six tries.
Steve Tyrer, Lee Paterson, Luke Adamson, Dane Manning and Keith Holden scored the others, with Tyrer kicking four conversions.
Callum Casey, Paul Handforth, Walker and Wayne Reittie touched down after the break, bookended by Oxford tries from Alex Thompson and Dave Ellison.
