YORK survived Hunslet’s late fightback as the Hawks suffered a blow to their billing as Championship One favourites.

Hunslet made a nightmare start, conceding three tries in the opening 17 minutes via Greg Minikin, Ed Smith and Pat Smith, Ben Reynolds tagging on the goal for a 14-0 lead. Presley increased York’s lead before two tries in six minutes from Aston Wilson and Liam Hood offered Hunslet hope.

York’s Lee Paterson and Hunslet’s Hood traded tries before Ben Dent grabbed York’s sixth try, Wilson and Ballard completed late Hawks scores.
