Giants ended Leeds Rhinos’ two-year reign as holders on Friday night and will face a Wakefield side who were given a scare by League One visitors Toulouse Olympique yesterday, before going through 40-22.

The teams meet at Huddersfield in Super League two weeks before the Cup tie, to be played over the weekend of June 23-26.

The Giants will be confident of taking a step closer to Wembley.

“I think we’ve certainly turned a corner,” said Giants assistant coach Kieron Purtill. “The boys are working hard for each other and they’re reaping the rewards.

“Every time you win a game, it’s a confidence boost and we’ve three in a row at home now.

“No matter what stage of year or how you’re playing, it’s always good to get back-to-back wins against Leeds. They’re still a very good team. Probably both of us are in a bit of a false position and I’d imagine those teams looking at the Middle 8s will be hoping we get out of there.”

Against Leeds, stand-off Danny Brough scored 19 points with a try, six goals and three drop goals but Purtill singled out second rower Michael Lawrence for special praise.

“We’ve had some very good performances in the last couple of weeks and probably an unsung hero for us has been Michael Lawrence, who regularly makes between 40 and 60 tackles a game,” he said.

“He’s been setting the tone for us and the other guys have been getting on board and following him.”

Castleford Tigers – who defied an injury crisis to see off Salford on Saturday – will hope history repeats itself after being drawn away to Wigan Warriors, where they won en-route to Wembley in 2014.

Hull’s reward for yesterday’s 47-18 win at St Helens was a home tie against Catalans Dragons, who they beat 28-26 at KC Stadium last weekend.

Hull coach Lee Radford is delighted with his side’s draw and expects it to be a more open affair than last week’s error-strewn league clash with the French club.

The Black and Whites triumphed 28-26 at the KC Stadium, completing the double following their 38-10 win over the Dragons in Perpignan back in February.

“It’s a mouth-watering fixture,” said Radford. “We played them last week and it was a terrible game to watch but I think this will live up to expectations with so much at stake.”

The Catalans were runners-up in the first final to be played at the re-developed national stadium in 2007 while Hull’s defeat by Wigan in 2013 preserved their unwanted record of never having won at Wembley.

All four quarter-finals will be televised by the BBC and Sky Sports.

Quarter-final draw: Hull v Catalans Dragons, Wigan Warriors v Castleford Tigers, Warrington Wolves v Widnes Vikings, Huddersfield Giants v Wakefield.
