HULL KR head coach Chris Chester says it is only “opinion” that rivals Hull FC have two of the best props in the league.
Mickey Paea and Liam Watts have been earning rave reviews this term for the manner in which they have led the Black and Whites’ pack.
The pair are certain to be influential as Hull seek to gain ascendancy once more in tomorrow night’s derby at Magic Weekend.
“I’m hearing a lot of noises,” said Chester, when it was suggested Newcastle Knights-bound Paea and Watts are leading lights.
“It’s opinions isn’t it? They are good players in their own right but I’m more than confident in my guys.
“James Green has really stood up these last few weeks and he’s needed to do as he was the only genuine front-rower available.
“I brought young James Greenwood in from Wigan on loan and he was great last week.
“We’ve got Tony Puletua in now from Salford, too, and, though Hull do have a good pack – it is probably their strength – I’m more than confident in my boys.
“We’re looking forward to this. The derby is always a special occasion and we’re excited by it.”
Chester hopes to have a raft of first-team talent back for the critical fixture including ex-England hooker Shaun Lunt and scrum-half Albert Kelly.
“I’ve been hopeful for the last few weeks but we’ll give people like Shaun Lunt, Albert Kelly and Liam Salter up until Friday and then make a decision on those three,” he said.
“Hopefully, two out of three will be available but again, I’m mindful we’ve still got another nine games to go, and you don’t want to lose any of them for an extended period.”
