Castleford Tigers v Wakefield Trinity: Essential for Trinity to make fast start, says Scott Grix

ALL the attention is focused on the home team, but full-back Scott Grix says Wakefield Trinity will travel to Castleford Tigers in good heart tonight and keen to spoil the party.

Tigers will be confirmed as Super League leaders if they avoid defeat but a shock win would boost Trinity’s hopes of a semi-final place and they are in confident mood after last week’s 38-6 thrashing of Leeds Rhinos.

Trinity were crushed 42-24 at the Jungle in March, but led 16-0 halfway through last month’s home derby and were pipped only two minutes from time when Luke Gale’s drop goal sealed a 25-24 win for Tigers.

“It is a tough place to go and they are playing really well,” said Grix. “But so are Leeds – they put 32 points on Wigan the other week.

“We have not been starting very well, but if we do we will put ourselves in a good position.

“In a general Super League game you might be able to pull it back and build your way back into the game, but in a play-off game it is too intense and you lose too much energy.

“If you don’t start well you are going to struggle.”

The win over Leeds, which followed back-to-back defeats, highlighted what Trinity are capable of.

Grix added: “It is nice to know we have still got it in us. It shows we haven’t fluked being where we are. Last week was more like us and how we’ve played this season.

“We have taken one step forward and we can forget about the horrible month we’ve just had and take it from here.”

Last week was Trinity’s first win in the Super-8s – after seven losses last season and the round-one defeat at Huddersfield this year – and Grix said that had been preying on their minds.

“You can’t get away from it,” he admitted. “You try your best not to think about it, but everyone talks about it. Nobody picked us to beat Leeds, but it would be nice to finish strong.”

Head coach Chris Chester has confirmed that Australian hooker/half-back Tyler Randell has been granted a visa.

The former Newcastle Knights utility was expected in the country yesterday, but too late to play against Castleford Tigers tonight.
