The Australian bows out tonight when Trinity, who he has served for the last three years, complete their difficult Super 8s series at St Helens.

He is still aged only 30 but Anderson, who won an NRL Grand Final with Melbourne Storm in 2009, maintains he knows it is the right choice.

“It was a tough decision, I’m not going to lie about that,” he said.

“But there’s things going on back home which mean I would like to spend a lot more time with my family.

“It’s tough being an Australian over here and not having family so it’ll be good to get back home and spend time with my family once again.

“It’s pretty daunting, though, knowing this is it.

“Rugby league is all I’ve known and to think about it being my last game as a Super League, or even a professional player, is scary.

“It’s emotional, especially leading up to the game knowing it’s your last training session, the last team-run and the last time you talk to a certain team-mate.”

Wakefield have lost their last eight games, however, and their hopes of ending that is not going to get any easier at fourth-placed St Helens.

But the former Brisbane Broncos forward looks back on the mid-season winning sequence that proved enough to steer them into the top-eight as the main positive of the campaign.

“When we went on that six or seven-game winning streak, it was a real high point for us,” he said. “Hopefully we can win Friday and go out on a high.”
