Wakefield Trinity: Early-season break works in Trinity's favour

Trinity, who lost 12-8 to Hull in round one two days ago, have no game this week due to the World Club Series.

They visit Huddersfield on Friday, February 24 and coach Chris Chester is hopeful injuries will have cleared up by then.

Forwards Anthony England and Matty Ashurst both suffered concussion against Hull and Chester said: “Ingy couldn’t even walk straight when he came off.

“He took a big bang. Matty Ashurst is okay, he is talking about what happened and he felt it was a penalty. As a precaution we had to take him off.

“It was tough losing Ingy. He has been very good in pre-season and in games as well. We found it tough without him on the field, but Tinirau Arona played from minute two to minute 65 and then came back on for the last five.

“He had a fair old dig, as did the rest of the boys. There was a lot to be upbeat about, even though we lost the game.”

Chester was also pleased with another substitute forward, David Fifita, who is regaining fitness after surgery on both thumbs.

“He is getting there,” said Chester. “He missed a lot of pre-season and he is a little bit behind fitness-wise, but he is a threat with the ball.

“He will get better the more game he has.

“We’ve got a 12-day turnaround to the next game and we will have to out some work into Dave and the rest of the boys, but I was pleased with Dave’s performance.”

Trinity are hopeful recruit Mitch Allgood, who has been sidelined due to a head injury, will be in contention for the trip to John Smith’s Stadium.
