Widnes v Wakefield: Webster hopes Trinity keep that happy feeling

The West Yorkshire club head over to Cheshire once more tomorrow in search of a fourth successive victory at Select Security Stadium.

Similarly, Wakefield have a perfect Super League start to maintain, too, after impressively defeating Castleford Tigers and Hull KR so far.

“We have got a good record there,” said Webster.

“But all three games have been pretty tight and over the three years it has been two evenly-matched teams.

“Playing Widnes has always been a tough game for us. We’ve done half all right against them, but every game has gone right to the death and they are an extremely tough team to beat, especially at home.

“We have got three wins on their pitch, but it could easily have been three losses.”

Denis Betts’s side lost 38-6 at Leeds Rhinos in their last game and are still awaiting their first win of the year.

But Webster, who played at Widnes for 18 months before retiring in 2010, said: “I thought they played well for a long time against Leeds before Leeds ran away at the death.

“And they got a fantastic draw against Wigan with only 12 men.

“Any team that beats them this year is going to have to play well, especially at home.”

That said, Webster admitted Wildcats are rightly in a positive mood.

“We are a happy team, which is good,” he said. “A winning team is always happy.

“If we get a good performance we’ll give ourselves a chance in the last five minutes again.

“You can’t win them all, but we want to go into the last five minutes with a chance of getting a result.”

Wakefield are poised to give a debut to former Castleford and Hull centre Joe Arundel and a first appearance of the season to 18-year-old utility back Jordan Crowther.

Widnes are set to give a debut to former Wigan prop Gil Dudson and first appearances of the season to Paddy Flynn, Ben Kavanagh and Lloyd White.

Captain Kevin Brown returns – for his 300th career appearance – after missing the defeat at Leeds with concussion and  winger Patrick Ah Van is recalled after serving a one-match suspension.
