Doherty’s dismissal proves costly

Ealing maintained their 100 per cent start but were made to work very hard for a 21-8 victory in a fiercely competitive match at Wharfedale.

The leaders were rarely allowed out of their own half in the first period but the Greens had just a try by Taylor Prell and a penalty from Tom Davidson to show for almost continuous pressure. At one stage, the visitors were reduced to 13 men with yellow cards issued to forwards Kevin Davis and Arthur Ellis.

The Greens had a fine ‘try’ by Davidson discounted on the intervention of a touch-judge and the same player struck a penalty from half-way against a post. The loss of injured No 8 Rob Baldwin was a further blow and midway through the second half captain James Doherty was sent off for dangerous play before winger Scott Jordan was carded for a deliberate knock-on.
