Greens are made to pay the penalty

depleted Wharfedale travelled to Cinderford and put up a spirited performance but lost 27-17 and missed out on a bonus point by conceding a last-minute penalty.

Davidson’s penalty put the Greens ahead but it was 19-3 at the break following two tries from Evans and another by second-row Randall.

The first quarter of the second half was scoreless, with the visitors playing with more purpose and tempo. Then, in the 63rd minute, Powell was driven over from a five-metre lineout and Davidson converted as Wheeler was sin-binned.

Cinderford, down to 14 men, were quick to respond when prop Caulfield stole through on Wharfedale’s lineout.

The Greens looked to have claimed something when Davies converted prop Altham’s try only for Davies to kick the penalty in the dying seconds.
