Greens hand out lesson in finishing

Wharfedale began their season with a fine, come-from-behing victory over Hartpury College, defeating the Gloucestershire students 30-25.

After a Tom Davidson penalty, a catch and drive led to a try for Chris Howick, which Davidson converted. Davidson was accurate with a kick wide out to put Dale 10-0 up after 10 minutes. Hartpury then scored two converted tries and kicked two penalties before Davidson scored three penalties either side of the break to pull Wharfedale to within a point.

Strong defence kept the Greens out until Simon Willet scored from a catch and drive, Davidson converting. With 12 minutes to go Adam Howard crashed over for Dale’s third try, again converted by Davidson.

The plucky students found a second wind and reduced the deficit with an unconverted try with five minutes left.
