Leeds beat rivals to draft in Hardy

Leeds Carnegie will this morning announce their fourth new signing of the summer, loosehead prop Gareth Hardy from Australian side Western Force.

The 28-year-old, who played Super 14 rugby with New South Wales Waratahs and was a target for a number of Guinness Premiership clubs, joins the top-flight newcomers on a two-year contract.

Hardy has a reputation as a solid scrummager with ability in the loose and has experience playing for Australia's A team.

"We are delighted to have signed a player of Gareth's experience for next season," said Leeds head coach Neil Back.

"As well as his presence in the pack, he will also offer us plenty of options around the field as well and compliment the other senior props we have in Mike MacDonald, Juan Gomez, Tommy McGee and Fosi Pala'amo.

"I know that Gareth was approached by a number of other Premiership clubs and we are particularly pleased that he has bought into our vision for the club and wants to help the team achieve our goals."

Hardy follows Marco Wentzel, Alfie To'oala and Henry Fa'afili in joining the club while Juan Gomez has also agreed to sign following a successful loan spell last season.
