London Scottish 15 Doncaster Knights 27: Owen earns bonus win for Knights

Doncaster's Will Owen.

WILL OWEN’S 76th-minute try earned Doncaster Knights another bonus-point win as they secured a fourth victory from their opening five Championship games.

Clive Griffiths’s side built on the victory over Nottingham by edging their way to a 27-15 success at London Scottish.

Although at times the game proved scrappy, there was plenty for him to be positive about ahead of Saturday’s trip to Hartpury, not least from two-try scrum-half Michael Heaney.

He gave Doncaster the lead in the 23rd minute with a quickly-taken penalty tap catching Scottish dozing in their own 22.

That seemed to stir the hosts into action with Joe Atkinson scoring the first of his brace and Craig Holland improving.

However, a mis-hit clearance kick gifted Doncaster some position from which winger Tyson Lewis showed his finishing prowess to furnish his side with 10-7 interval lead.

They started the second half well, too, as Heaney showed confidence from the base of a ruck to get over for his second, Simon Humberstone converting.

Holland slotted a penalty which Charlie Foley soon returned in kind only for Atkinson to race in for his second and leave Doncaster just 20-15 ahead with 18 minutes left.

However, Knights hooker David Nelson seized on a loose Scottish pass and sent former Rotherham centre Owen in for the crucial fourth try, Foley converting.
