Leeds Carnegie's Jacob Rowan, runs in the path of Cornish Pirates Rob Cook.

Exciting prospect Jacob Rowan has committed his immediate future to Leeds Carnegie by signing a one-year contract extension.

The Keighley-born back-row forward, who turns 22 tomorrow, has been one of the mainstays of the club’s campaign, and has even captained the side in the absence of Andy Titterrell.

He has also led the England Under 20s team, maintaining a proud Leeds tradition that was begun by current elite player squad member Calum Clark and continues today through Chris Walker.

All three are back-row forwards.

Rowan said: “We are set for some really exciting times at Leeds Carnegie and I want to be part of that next season.

“I am pleased with how things have gone this season so far. We have got a lot of young talent within the squad and (head coach) Diccon Edwards has given us all a chance to show what we can do.

“I am committed to Leeds Carnegie regardless of what division we are in next season but obviously all of us are working hard to try and make sure that is the Aviva Premiership.

“I know a lot of the other lads are also looking to agree new deals and the club are well down the line with their recruitment plans for next season so the spirit within the club is good.

“There is a great unity in the squad and we have a collective goal that we all want to achieve together.

“We have got three games to go in the Championship before the play-offs begin and we are really ambitious about the end to the season and our promotion push.”

Edwards said: “Jacob’s show of loyalty by agreeing a new deal will hopefully be the first of a number of new contracts we are able to announce with our young stars in the next few weeks.”

Leeds’ game at Nottingham was postponed yesterday for the second successive weekend.

Rotherham Titans’ fixture against London Welsh will be played today at 2pm at Clifton Lane.

The club are offering tickets to under 16s priced £1.
