Yorkshire Leagues: Appleby Frodingham go clear at the top thanks to six-hitting Matt Fowler

Appleby Frodingham maintained their 100 percent start to the season thanks to a sparkling century from Matt Fowler against Whitley Hall.

He smashed 16 fours and six sixes in racing to an unbeaten 164 off 130 balls and put on 194 for the fifth wicket with Kieran Lindley (87) as the home side set a target of 313-8.

Chris Groenik (4-25) and Duncan Heath (3-27) combined to bowl out the visitors for 123 and with none of the other games in Yorkshire South Premier completed, Appleby Frodingham go clear at the top.

Openers Dave Rodgers (63) and Mark Cummins (70) put on 107 but with Zohaib Ahmed picking up 5-46, including three wickets in one over, Wickersley Old Village were restricted to 228-8. Barnsley were denied the chance to chase it down because of the rain.

There was also only one meaningful innings at Aston Hall where Doncaster Town reached 210-6 thanks to a second-wicket stand of 110 between James Ward (108no) and James Davies (42).

There were plenty of runs at Hull where Matthew Good’s century was the highlight as Harrogate inflicted a first defeat of the season on Yorkshire Premier North leaders.

Good’s 103 included 12 boundaries and he and fellow opener Dion Sanson (78) put on 188. With George Ross scoring a half -century, Harrogate reached 328-7 despite the efforts of Jack Storey, who picked up five wickets.

Hull were always behind the asking rate and were bowled out for 224 with brothers Tom (51) and Tim Appleyard (33) the main contributors.

Richard Ngarva (3-45) and Kristian Wilkinson (3-18) kept York to 135-6 but Scarborough’s hopes of victory were then dashed by the weather.

Dominic Rhodes (72) and Kevin Murphy (46no) put on 79 for the fifth wicket in Stamford Bridge’s 264-5 before rain ended the game at Driffield.

With Woodhouse Grange’s modest 97-6 reduced to a target of 95, Yorkshire Academy were just able to get home by four wickets on a tough day for batsmen.

Only two games were completed in the Bradford Premier, both having an impact on the top of the table.

Leaders Pudsey St Lawrence clinched a seven-wicket win over nearest rivals Hanging Heaton to open an 18-point lead.

Tom Hudson took three wickets in five balls as Hanging Heaton were dismissed for 106 and Barrie Frankland made sure of the win with an unbeaten half -century.

Kashif Naveed was Morley’s hero as they climbed above Hanging Heaton into second place with a three-wicket win at New Farnley.

Naveed picked up 4-23 as the home side reached 156-9 in their 25 overs and then he top-scored with 37 in the successful reply.

In the unfinished games, Farsely had Cleckheaton struggling on 71-5 in pursuit of 166-7 in which Chris Henry smashed four sixes in making 32 in 13 balls.

Jack Edgar followed up his previous week’s unbeaten century with 68 not out as Bradford & Bingley reached 154-6.

Tom Birkinshaw’s unbeaten 45 could not stop Drakes Huddersfield Premiership early pacemakers Shepley going down to their first defeat against Armitage Bridge.

Dylan Steyn (53) and Imran Malik (42) were the main contributors to Bridge’s 207-7 which was adjusted to a target of 188 after rain and that proved just too much for Shepley, who were eight runs short at the close.

Nick Brook dominated the match as Burley inflicted a first defeat on Aire-Wharfe leaders Horsforth.

Brook hit an unbeaten 59 in Burley’s 166-8 then ran out Horsforth’s top scorer Byron Hoshoff for 36 and picked up 4-16 as the visitors crashed out for 123.

Toby Jacklin picked up six cheap wickets as Collingham dismissed Kirkstall for 96 in reply to their 183-7.

But the bowling feat of the day came down in the Third Division where Green Lane were skittled for 31 in reply to Tong Park Esholt’s 141-8 thanks to Will Murray (5-14) and Mahir Ali, whose 5-17 included a hat-trick followed by two in two balls in the following over.
