WHAT kind of soil do cauliflowers like? And how can some plants deflect the bugs from your prize veg? These gardening tips and more answered here by experts from Harlow Carr in Harrogate.
Experts including the horticulturalist and broadcaster Joe Maiden were among those helping gardeners to get the best from their home-grown crops at the Royal Horticulaural society gardens.

Harlow Carr's Grow Your Own Veg day offered tips and inspiration for tending your own vegetables, with the focus on storing and cooking this season's produce and planting and sowing for autumn and winter vegetables.

Chef Andrew Wood from The Vegetarian Society was demonstrating recipes for some of the more unusual vegetables, including hot dishes, soups and salads.

"This is the perfect time of year to experiment with different ways of using the vegetables and leaves that you harvest from the garden," said Alison Mundie, RHS Kitchen Gardener.

You can take some free advice from the experts at the event in this exclusive video, featuring six 30 second tips for better veg.
