The World Corporate Games finished with a flourish yesterday and were hailed the "best ever". Competitors from across the globe were returning to their desks today after the three-day sports festival in Leeds.
It was the first time the event had been held in England since 1992.
Local heroes KPMG scooped the top prize, winning the Sport for Life Grand award, for entering the most participants. Employees from 15 of the group's offices across Europe took part, bringing their total participants to 320.
KPMG team leader Lee Marshall said: "It's particularly pleasing that almost half of our team were new to the Games this year – hopefully an indication of things to come, when we defend our title next year."
Ben Sedgemore, games director at organiser Sport for Life said: "Leeds has been an outstanding host for the games venue. I'm sure that all the athletes will leave with a positive impression of the city. Leeds has a great vibe about it, reflected both in the sporting venues and in the people who have made us so welcome.
"We've had just over 5,600 athletes taking part this weekend. Having made my way around the venues it's great to see so many smiling faces, with people coming together, building team spirit and taking part in competitive sport."
Teams from the United States and Europe took part in the games, which were supported by the Yorkshire Post, to compete in 21 sports, from netball to cricket.
One of the highlights of the games was the dragon boat racing held at Roundhay Park which attracted competitors from more than 36 organisations.
Sporting glory continued for Leeds entrants, as Richard Crabtree from Leeds City Council won the men's tennis singles competition, beating 2008 Istanbul Corporate Games champion, Can Akturk, on the indoor courts at the John Charles Centre.
Other local medallists included Simon Bramall from Asda and Guy Lamb from DLA Piper as they claimed 1st and 2nd positions in the men's open golf and James McMullan from KPMG who won the 5km running event on Saturday.
