Such fun! TV’s Miranda announces Leeds Arena concert

TV comedy star Miranda Hart has become the latest performer to announce a concert at the new Leeds Arena, which opens next autumn.

The BBC1 comedy favourite is bringing her stand-up show to the £60m venue on March 22, 2014. Tickets go on sale on Monday.

She said on the BBC One Show: “I’ve decided – and it’s all organised – that I’m going to do a stand-up tour. It starts on February 28, 2014. So please come and see me!”

The blurb for the show reads: “Expect galloping, attempts at song and dance, and simply – such fun!”

Sir Elton John is due to open Leeds Arena with a concert on September 4 next year. Leeds-based indie band the Kaiser Chiefs will then play the 13,500-capacity venue on September 13.

Comic Micky Flanagan is appearing on September 27 while performance art group Cirque du Soleil’s Alegria show will be running from October 23 to 27. Boy band JLS will appear on December 20 next year.

The main phase of construction work on the Leeds City Council-backed arena is due to finish in March. It will then be handed over to operator SMG Europe for its interior fit-out.

Officials estimate the venue will create more than 450 jobs and generate around £25m a year for the Leeds economy.
