Three Alan Ayckbourn plays which started life in Scarborough are making their New York premieres in a celebration of British theatre.

The Stephen Joseph Theatre Company, Scarborough, will present the Ayckbourn Ensemble at 59E59 Theaters (sic), performing two world premieres – Arrivals & Departures and two frivolous shorts in Farcicals – and a revival of the 1992 play Time Of My Life all written and directed by the author.

First seen at the Stephen Joseph Theatre (SJT) in Scarborough last summer, the productions have since toured to ten theatres across the UK before going international with an 11-strong cast.

This marks the SJT’s fifth appearance in New York since 2005, during which time the company has been nominated for six Drama Desk Awards.

Mr Ayckbourn said: “It’s so exciting to be back at 59E59 Theaters here in New York, off Broadway, with my very own Scarborough company. This time with not just one but three shows.

“Over the years we’ve had wonderful receptions for the work here from public and press alike, which makes me very proud. It proves that our work at the SJT can stand up with the best of them, worldwide.
