The Grand Theatre, Leeds **

SOMETIMES you can have too much of a good thing and that’s the case with Peter Pan Goes Wrong, the latest offering from Mischieve Theatre Company.

Hot on the heels of their smash hit success of The Play That Goes Wrong somehow this production sadly doesn’t quite make it.

This time the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society set out to present JM Barrie’s classic tale of the boy who never grew up, but as the title suggests everything that can go wrong does.

Creating the atmosphere of an am dram production is great but the pre-curtain antics were just a tad too long.

Peter Pan Goes Wrong has a total overdose of much of a muchness of slapstick comedy in Act 1 until in the end it becomes annoying.

There are just too many gags running into one another while others go on far too long and smother the brilliance of the production’s tightly timed slapstick and incredible use of physical theatre – less would made the production much more credible and even funnier.

In Act 2 the production is tighter and eventually comes to life with incredible use of the revolve and some measured mayhem.

For all its faults, Peter Pan Goes Wrong does however have one thing in its favour a high energy cast with incredible comedy timing.
