Cecilia Flores from Pascual Toso in Argentina will be at Field and Fawcett in York on Thursday, July 9 to present a selection of wines.
I met Cecilia when I visited this producer a few years ago and she is a terrific winemaker, producing great value easy-drinking wines, but also deeper, more complex wines.
Tickets cost £7.50 and are worth snapping up. Ring 01904 489073
New quality controls
The Italian wine region Prosecco Conegliano Valdobbiadene Superiore has now been granted DOCG status. The region can now enforce regulations to control the quality of its wines. The first thing they will do is ban the use of the name of the grape Prosecco for any wine grown outside their region. Glera is the name which will have to be used on other wines. Buy them now while they are still good value.
Toast independence
Celebrate the loss of our colony across the Atlantic with a glass of Louis Roederer Quartet from California (£17.99 on multibuy, Majestic).
Made with all the expertise of Louis Roederer in France using grapes ripened in the warmth of Californian sunshine, it has a sleek style with elegant complexity. Rather like their new President.
