Criticism of Mensch’s decision to quit ‘puzzling’
I’M a little puzzled regarding the criticism of Louise Mensch following her resignation from Parliament to follow her husband to New York, especially the piece by Jayne Dowle (Yorkshire Post, August 13).
Surely all Ms Mensch is doing is exercising her right to make a lifestyle choice, something most of us do at various stages in our lives?

Ms Mensch probably does have enough money to employ a nanny, but that doesn’t mean she is obliged to do so.
As Ms Mensch’s husband works and is based in New York, sharing childcare duties does seem a little impractical.
As for criticising Ms Mensch’s lack of public duty, I wonder what such duties Jayne and your correspondents perform, and how much they would sacrifice in order to continue doing them?
