BBC apologises over radio breastfeeding remark

The BBC has apologised after a local radio presenter compared breastfeeding in public to having sex in front of other people.

Presenter James Hazell made the comment during a debate on BBC Radio Suffolk on Monday.

A spokesman for the Breastfeeding Network said: “Breastfeeding is an entirely normal way to feed a baby and we’re sure that Mr Hazell wouldn’t want to hear a baby screaming out in public for want of a meal.”

A BBC spokesman said: “The comment was intended to stimulate a debate around the issues of breastfeeding in public and give listeners an opportunity to discuss the issue openly, and to voice opinions for both sides of the argument.”
