Yorkshire pub claims new world record with its monster meal of fish and chips
The Wensleydale Heifer, West Witton, near Leyburn, smashed the record of a 78lb serving previously held by The Black Rose Restaurant in Boston, USA, over the weekend with a 101lb (45kg) fish supper.
The giant meal was prepared with a monster fillet of halibut – coated in more than four gallons of batter and fried in so much oil it needed seven hours to heat up – buckets of chips and accompanied with a vat of mushy peas.

Hide AdThe record was officially verified by Guinness World Records and the dish shared among a crowd of 250 people.
David Moss, owner of the Wensleydale Heifer, said: “Everything ran more or less to plan and we were delighted to break the record.
“I’d like to thank all the staff at The Heifer for their sterling efforts and for all the people who supported us.
“The fish and chips tasted great but I think for now we will stick to serving more normal size fillets.
“It seems appropriate that we take the record back from the Americans on Independence Day weekend and bring it back to Yorkshire where it rightly belongs.”
