Are Hull City after a striker or a left-back before deadline?

Hull City manager Grant McCann has suggested he will not spend the final hours of the transfer window searching for a new striker despite profligacy in front of goal almost undermining their return to the League One summit.

Greg Docherty’s fifth-minute goal helped Hull City return to the top of League One but it was the least they deserved for a dominant first-half performance against lowly Swindon.

Chances were missed that could have put the game to bed, and more potent opponents than Swindon could have exploited that.

Nevertheless, it is expected that any incomings before the deadline at 11pm will be in the lef-back area as cover to Brandon Fleming, with McCann not in the market for another forward.

“We don’t need another striker, we’ve got plenty of options up there,” said McCann, who signed Birmingham’s Dan Crowley – impressive against Swindon – earlier in the window.

“Tom Eaves is two to three weeks away, we’ve got the six that were on the bench today, plus Thomas Mayer.

“We’ve got a lot of players that can play up there and if we bring another striker in, it just confuses everything for us – I think we’ve got really good options up there.”

On the search for a left-back he said: “We are looking in that area, I believe we’re very close to one.”

Martin Samuelsen could be on his way out of the KCom Stadium as he remains in talks with Danish Superliga side Aalborg over a loan move.
