But in the spirit of public service, here's a few cancelled shows at Sheffield City Hall which we have rescheduled dates for. Jools Holland, which should have taken place on December 2 is now on Monday, January 17. The Human League on December 1, will now take place on December 12 at Sheffield O2 Academy. The one that we think is a little strange is The Christmas Musical Cavalcade, which was due to be performed on December 5 at Sheffield City Hall, and will now take place on... May 15. A spokesperson said it would feature "the same programme and performers, except for the carols". Quite. Because that would be seriously unusual – in the middle of May.

There's something about this that just makes us smile. On New Year's Eve, Leeds club The Elbow Room is hosting a tribute band, the Total Stone Roses. So? Well, the tribute band will be joined at the venue by Bez, of the Happy Mondays, the one who used jig about on stage and rattle the maracas with The Happy Mondays. No, we're not entirely sure why he's appearing with a tribute act to the Stone Roses in Leeds on New Year's Eve either.

In the pages of Culture last week we brought you news of an excellent exhibition up in York. Alfred Huckett is displaying a fantastic collection of his work at the York National Centre for Early Music. Really impatient to see the newly- updated movie of Tron?

Well, the National Media Museum is on hand to help. The cinema is celebrating the launch of Tron: Legacy with a midnight screening on December 16 – and a load of Tron-themed fun from 7pm that evening.

Fans who come dressed in costumes inspired by the movie will have the chance to win prizes on the night – and everyone will be able to look as if they starred in the movie when they arrive at the launch by striking a pose in front of a green screen that will magic them into the movie.

The museum's games lounge is also getting a Tron makeover with free gaming all evening. As well as the latest Tron Evolution videogame, the original Tron arcade game from 1982 can be played in full 8-bit glory!

We are delighted to hear that the inaugural White Rose Winter Music Festival held at Ripley Castle was not defeated by the elements last weekend. Sir Thomas Ingilby supported local promoters Shan Robinson and Emma Ramply in their ambition to stage a series of concerts with programmes ranging from opera to musicals, which, despite the snow, saw 2,500 people through the doors of a purpose-built courtyard auditorium in the castle grounds. Here's to next year's festival, which the dynamic duo are already planning.
