Band’s homecoming gig sells out within minutes

TICKETS for the Arctic Monkeys’ homecoming gigs in Sheffield this summer sold out just 90 minutes after going on sale yesterday.

The band last played in their home city when they made their Sheffield Arena debut in November 2009, in front of more than 13,000 fans. Tickets for the forthcoming two shows at Don Valley Bowl, on June 10 and 11, went on sale at 9am yesterday morning but a spokesman for the Arena – which handled the ticket sales – said they had all been snapped up by 10.30am.

Lucky fans who managed to get their hands on the tickets will see the four-piece group supported by Miles Kane, The Vaccines and Dead Sons on the Friday night; and Mikes Kane, Anna Calvi and Mabel Love on the Saturday.

In a statement, the band said: “We’re really looking forward to playing Sheffield with our special guests. It’s great doing our own event and it’s going to be a wonderful couple of days in our hometown.”
