Best in show

The Great Yorkshire Show is also a fashion destination, showcasing designers both established and up-and-coming, both High Street and independent, in a dedicated fashion pavilion that offers four catwalk shows a day – and every one to a packed house.

This year, the runway will play host to Hobbs, celebrating its 30th birthday by previewing its autumn/winter collection – the High Street favourite has even created a scarf especially to tie in with the event.

Meanwhile, Keighley-based Brook Taverner will show off its menswear collection, and much-loved family department store Harveys of Halifax will present a flavour of its new ranges from Joules, Laura Ashley and others.

New to the show this time comes North Yorkshire milliner Suzanne Gill, whose bespoke headpiece won the coveted Best Hat award at this year’s Cheltenham Festival. She will present a collection of 20 hats inspired by Parisian vintage chic mixed with the drama of the Yorkshire coastline.

Huddersfield designer Hardy Punglia also makes his GYS debut with his label Left Bank, showing a collection he has created especially for the show, using many Yorkshire-based suppliers.

As ever, student fashion is an important aspect of the Great Yorkshire Show catwalk, and this year sees students from Northallerton College and Doncaster College showing off their considerable talents. Hair and make-up will be provided by staff and students at Bradford College, and the models are all from Huddersfield-based Morton-Gledhill – The Fashion Team.

And with country fashions so on-trend at the moment, it’s well worth taking a good look at all the stands selling wellies, waxed jackets, padded waistcoats, sturdy hats and so much more.
