Blend and bring back the blusher

THERE'S a new fresh look coming for spring, with make-up becoming softer and more natural-looking, although all features are defined and highlighted, including the cheeks, in contrast to the flat looks seen in recent seasons. Blusher is back, and it's making a statement, albeit a subtle, skilfully sculpted one.

This is make-up used to enhance nature rather than alter it, and it's a look that works beautifully for those with the benefit of young, radiant skin, but it's even more effective for more mature complexions, because those over 35 look fresher wearing minimal, light-diffusing foundation, but do need that definition of eye, lip and cheek that younger faces have naturally.

The secret is in the blending, so use your eyeliner on the top rim (inside the lashes) and lower rim (outer half) of the eye, but then blend it in with a dabber or wand. Define brows.

Make-up and skin care guru Trish McEvoy has created her Resort 2011 Collection especially to achieve the new fresh definition. "With the perfect colours to bring out the eye, accentuate the contour of the cheek, illuminate the high points of the face and give vibrance to the lip, this collection will make it easy for you to achieve the look of a naturally bright complexion and well-sculpted face," she says.

Look out for the Highlights Bronze, 21, and the Classic Lip Colour in Vibrant 35, a lovely, gently pulsating, easy-to-wear pink, at 16, plus the Eye Base Essentials in new shade Rested, 20, all on counter this week at Harvey Nichols Leeds.
