Bringing the outdoors in will be trend for autumn

It is easy to be inspired by the natural world around us. Designers have always used the Earth and all its elements to inspire them and for the past year or so the trend has been for styles which use reclaimed and recycled materials.

Although reclaiming is still going to be the buzz word for a while yet, tastes and trends are beginning to move on. "Outdoorsy" people will definitely love the looks coming in for next season which are inspired by nature.

From colours to fabrics this autumn we're all going back to our roots. There won't be a clean line in sight, as this look means using rustic wood, fabrics with earthy tones and natural objects as accessories.

From animal print to seashells, if it's from the world outside, it will be hot property.

To get the look you'll need plenty of earthy tones like reds and browns – great shades for a lovely welcoming room. The key to getting this right is in the textures you use – mix and match as much as possible.

Nothing should be straight and modern. Instead opt for furniture made from reclaimed materials. The Trees 4 Trees range at Barker and Stonehouse is a great starting point as all is made from reclaimed wood, and wood sustainably grown as part of a community reforestation project in Indonesia.

Where you can, expose floorboards instead of laying carpet to minimise the use of man-made materials. While it's still warm outside you can keep the look fresh by using crisp white fabrics and as it gets cooler move to fabrics which will cocoon and warm like wool or alpaca.

There are also lots of gorgeous fabric and leather mix sofas which will fit perfectly with this theme. After all, just because we're being inspired by the outdoors doesn't mean we can't be ultra comfortable too. My top recommendations would be the Vivina and Enya sofas.

When it comes to the accessories there's the beautiful wooden "LOVE" letters and Woodstock tray for natural wow-factor and don't forgot to display any beautiful shells or pieces of driftwood you've collected from seaside visits as feature items.
