Campaigning show combines fun, fashion and money-saving ideas

Following last summer's successful Choose2Reuse fashion show, at York Racecourse, the stage is set for a second outing at the Royal Hall, in Harrogate, on Saturday, January 22.

Hosted by Dick Strawbridge, of Scrap Heap Challenge and It's Not Easy Being Green fame, this will be an opportunity both to buy pre-loved items and to see how unwanted clothing – either straight from a charity shop or redesigned into something new – can be just as desirable as High Street fashions.

There will also be displays of reusable furniture and stalls at the show where charities, local crafts people, businesses and designers who produce items from recycled materials, will show and sell their wares.

Entertainment will be provided by Any Dream Will Do singer Rob McVeigh and the North Yorkshire County Youth Dance Company.

The show – part of the Choose2Reuse campaign – has been organised by the York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership, which includes North Yorkshire County Council, City of York Council and the seven district and borough councils, and aims to combine fun and fashion with practical solutions to help people save money and the environment.

The campaign promotes alternative ways of reusing items to stop them ending up in landfill.

Choose2Reuse works in partnership with many organisations to encourage people to buy and donate second hand or extend the life of everyday items.

Recent campaigns have included an Inside Out Roadshow (creating room interiors styled with reused items) and a Fashion Fix working with high street retailers using charity and unwanted clothing to match the impact of those bought in fashion shops.

Tickets are 10, with concessions 5, at the Royal Hall, Harrogate, by calling 0845 1308840, between 10am-5pm, Monday-Saturday, or by visiting www.harrogateboxoffice.co.uk.
