Classical Preview: Sell out for concert by the classical music boys

The classical music boys are back again by public demand. Having given North Yorkshire two summer weeks of sold-out concerts, the same star-studded team have squeezed two days out of their hectic schedule for more concerts in Lastingham and Whitby.

But don't get too excited, the Lastingham date was sold out within hours of bookings opening, news of the concert having leaked out.

"We wanted to launch next year's North York Moors Chamber Music Festival in style, and so as to give our local audience the first chance to buy tickets we will have them on sale at both venues," says the artistic director,

Jamie Walton.

"We intended to have a Russian theme running through, but the festival is built around the works our performers would like to include."

Walton is one of Europe's most highly regarded cellists, and this month sees an addition to his growing catalogue of discs with an intriguing release of three sonatas (see today's Album Reviews).

Next month comes the much anticipated and previously unrecorded original version of William Walton's Cello Concerto and Shostakovich's First Concerto with the Philharmonia orchestra.

The two concerts will link his chamber music partner, the pianist, Daniel Grimwood, and last year's Classical Brit award winner the violinist, Jack Liebeck. If its your lucky day, try for returns to hear piano trios by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Dvorak in Lastingham, but there are still tickets for Whitby.
