Dewsbury picture houses consider request to exclude children

December 30, 1933

Dewsbury cinema managers are to meet to consider the request sent to them to exclude children from their cinemas temporarily in the attempt to fight the spread of infectious diseases in the borough.

A letter conveying this request was sent to the cinema proprietors by the Education Officer Mr Lesley Emmerson last night pointing out that the day schools and Sunday schools in the town were being closed until January 22 in the hope of arresting the spread of diphtheria, scarlet fever and other infectious diseases.
