Falcons provide alternative show at resort

A PAIR of cliff-dwelling peregrines is expected to prove popular with visitors to Scarborough this summer.

Over the next three months the RSPB, with support from Scarborough Council, will be showcasing the birds as they raise their young on the cliffs.

From next Thursday staff and volunteers from the conservation organisation will be manning a viewpoint several days a week on Marine Drive, kitted out with powerful telescopes and binoculars so visitors can watch the birds of prey in all their glory.

In Calderdale police are urging people to contact them following on from a recent call for residents to be on the look out for attempts to illegally poison a peregrine falcon.

Special Constable Phil Sanderson said: “We have had a number of calls about captive birds being used in traps. These have all been investigated and we thank the public for their concern and vigilance but urge people not to take matters into their own hands but to let us know.”
